Microsoft to Quintuple Windows 8 Pricing Starting in February

If you haven’t upgraded to Windows 8 yet (assuming that you actually plan to), you’d better hurry up and purchase the upgrade before February 1st. According to a post on Microsoft’s blog, Windows 8 pricing is about to get a whole lot more expensive.

From Microsoft’s blog post (via TheNextWeb):

Windows 8 upgrade editions (see which edition is right for you here) will be priced as follows starting in February:

  • The Windows 8 Pro upgrade edition will be available online and at retail for $199.99 MSRP (U.S.).
  • The Windows 8 upgrade edition will be available online and at retail for $119.99 MSRP (U.S.).
  • The Windows 8 Pro Pack will cost $99.99 MSRP (U.S.).
  • The Windows 8 Media Center Pack will cost $9.99 MSRP (U.S.).

Currently, you can upgrade to Windows 8 Pro for $40, making the new $200 price point a full five-fold increase. Yikes! It’s as if Microsoft thinks Windows 8 adoption isn’t already pathetic enough – the Windows 8 adoption rate is apparently worse than Windows Vista! Isn’t (unjustified) greed just awesome?
