Various 1980s Apple Computer Prototypes Surface Online

While we never normally see Apple prototypes out in the open, Hartmut Esslinger (Apple’s Sir Jony Ive in the eighties), has just published a new book and for the occasion he looked back at various designs and prototypes with DesignBoom. The prototypes and designs include laptops, desktops and even an unorthodox looking ‘flatscreen workstation’ from 1982.

It’s interesting to see how different some of the designs were to each other, from the more traditional ones like above to something like what’s pictured below.

Esslinger, who also worked for Louis Vuitton, worked closely with Steve Jobs on all the designs, and it’s obvious that a completely different approach is taken today at Apple.

His new book is called Design Forward and considers strategic design. For more information, check out DesignBoom here.
