OWC Releases First RAM Upgrade Kit for the New 21.5-Inch iMac

When Apple announced their new ultra-thin iMacs, it quickly became known that while the 27-inch offered user-upgradable RAM, the 21.5-inch model makes it nearly impossible for users to upgrade anything, forcing users to purchase outrageously expensive RAM upgrades direct from Apple if they wanted additional memory.

This has left many users disappointed – but Other World Computing is here to help! OWC recently released the first RAM upgrade kit for the 21.5-inch iMac, which contains a 16GB RAM kit, as well as all of the tools necessary for upgrading the device’s RAM at home:

Other World Computing (OWC®) […] announced…the immediate availability of the OWC Memory Upgrade DIY Kit for 2012 21.5″ iMac® models that began shipping recently. Offering up to double the RAM — 16GB — versus the factory base configuration of 8GB, the OWC Memory Upgrade DIY Kit comes complete with an iMac opening tool, suction cups for safe screen removal, 11-piece toolkit, foam adhesive for proper glass and display resealing, and microfiber screen cloth. Both this complete kit and a no tools, memory modules only kit are supported by a ‘how-to’ video and OWC Lifetime warranty.

The kit retails for $119.00 – a full $80 cheaper than Apple’s 16GB RAM upgrade. It’s great to see companies like OWC working to bring choice back to consumers – which Apple apparently no longer has any interested in, no matter how much they charge for their latest Macs!
