You’ve probably already heard that Google launched their new iOS Maps app last night, and it’s apparently doing very well in the App Store rankings! Less than 12 hours after launch, Google Maps had already managed to rocket up the rankings to become the number one free iOS app in the App Store. That was fast!
The app managed to overtake Google’s own YouTube app, and even the free version of Angry Birds Star Wars. It’s hardly surprising, though – many users, particularly those outside the U.S., have experienced a lot of problems with Apple’s own Maps app in iOS 6. Apple CEO Tim Cook even issued a personal apology!
Interestingly, Apple does not list Google Maps in their featured Maps section in the App Store, although it’s still possible that the app could be added to that section in the near future.
