It’s been a long time coming, but the folks at Rovio have just announced official plans for an Angry Birds movie with John Cohen as the producer (also produced Despicable Me). Iron Man executive producer David Marvell will also be joining as the executive producer for the upcoming film.

On the third anniversary of the release of Angry Birds, Rovio Entertainment announced that Despicable Me producer John Cohen has signed on as producer of the upcoming Angry Birds movie. David Maisel, former Chairman of Marvel Studios and executive producer of Iron Man, will be executive producer of the feature film, coming to theaters in summer 2016. The film will be produced and financed by Rovio Entertainment.
Angry Birds has certainly proven its worth as a game, clothing, toy, plush, and accessory franchise – but will people really flock to the theaters for an Angry Birds movie? Does it have blockbuster potential? We’ll all find out when it comes to theater in 2016!
