A report at FOSS Patents tells us that Apple and Motorola will meet again in late 2013, in a Southern California courtroom. FOSS calls the case an “antisuit lawsuit” which aims to prevent Motorola from pursuing any further litigation against Apple for any products that might include a Qualcomm baseband chip.
The Southern California-based court wants to resolve this matter fairly swiftly. The discovery deadline is May 31, 2013, and pretrial motions will be due on June 28, 2013. On July 15, 2013, Apple and Google will have to meet for court-moderated settlement talks, in preparation for which they’ll have to state a “specific and current demand or offer” for a settlement.
The court-released timeline includes a May 21, 2013 discovery deadline and a pretrial motion deadline of June 28, 2013. Moderated settlement talks are scheduled for July 15, 2013, with the case having its final pretrial conference on October 18, 2013. The trial should most likely begin shortly after the last pretrial meeting.
If the moderated settlement talks are as unsuccessful as most of the court-ordered negotiations have been in other cases like this, the matter will go to trial.
