Apple held a meeting with members of its MFi (Made for iPod/iPhone/iPad) program in Shenzen, China on November 7-8. The meeting served to brief them on the new Lightning connector standard, and information about the meeting has begun leaking out.
During the meeting this week a few interesting tidbits have made their way to us through the Great Firewall. Most are trivial (did not know: the Lightning connector is waterproof!) but one big one is not. Apple has been slow to bring the accessory manufacturers up to speed on Lightning, and it wasn’t until this week that Belkin announced the first official Lightning accessories.
TUAW has reported a few leaks from the meeting, including the tidbit that all MFi accessory manufacturers must agree to abide by Apple’s supplier responsibility code.
The code requires Apple’s partners to behave ethically on workers rights, worker health and safety, environmental issues, and more.
