iOS Devices Make up 60% of Video Traffic on the Web

Even though Android has a seeming lock on the smartphone market, and has made inroads in video traffic, a study from Freewheel today shows that iOS still makes up 60% of the mobile video traffic on the web.

iDownloadBlog:

Indeed, a new study finds that 60 percent of video not shown on PCs appear on iPad or iPhone screens. This despite a growing number of Android devices becoming a third screen for video consumers.

The 60% is down from 80% in a recent study, hinting at inroads made by Android players.

Freewheel, video monetization firm, took a look at more than fourteen billion video streams served up from their clients and found that mobile non-PC videos tripled since last year, reaching 1.3 billion views.

The numbers show that, as we already know, the attempts by Android promoters and Adobe to insist that Flash is a required feature on a smartphone is simply not true. Rather than ignore the iOS device users in the world, video producers quickly made the move to HTML5 video, which is the format Apple picked over Adobe’s power and resource hungry format.

The numbers also serves up welcome news for advertisers, as it shows that ads in  long-form videos, such as movies and television episodes, have the least amount of “bailout,” where consumers quit watching.

Is your iOS device your favorite method of watching video? Where do you do it? How often? Let us know in the comments section below.
