Apple Releases RAW Compatibility Update for New Sony and Olympus Digital Cameras

Apple released a new Digital Camera RAW Compatibility Update this week, version 4.0.2, adding RAW image support for a variety of recent cameras, including the new Sony NEX-5R and Sony NEX-6, to their iPhoto and Aperture image editing software.

From Apple’s support document for the update:

Digital camera RAW formats retain more image information than JPEGs and can produce better results when used with imaging applications such as Aperture and iPhoto.

OS X Mountain Lion provides system-level support for digital camera RAW formats from the following cameras. Note: To install Digital Camera RAW Compatibility Updates, you may need certain versions of Aperture or iPhoto already installed on your Mac.

Nikon COOLPIX P7700
Olympus PEN E-PL5
Olympus PEN E-PM2
