Rovio officially launched a Star Wars tie-in version of their popular Angry Birds series yesterday, and as you might expect, it was meet with a great deal of excitement, and quickly drew in bakillions of downloads. In fact, Rovio announced this morning that Angry Birds Star Wars reached the #1 spot in the U.S. App Store in just 2.5 hours!

Angry Birds Star Wars made the jump to hyperspace yesterday with a phenomenal launch. Within 2.5 hours of launch, the app soared to #1 in the US iOS App Store, blasting away all of our previous records.
Actual download numbers haven’t been revealed – but reaching the top of the charts in under 3 hours is damn impressive – and it might be a new all-time record for the App Store! If you haven’t grabbed a copy yet, it’s available now from the iTunes and Mac App Stores.
