Most of the criticism directed at iOS 6 Maps so far has been from individuals, however there’s just been a more serious complaint from an entire government, Taiwan News reports (via Cult of Mac). The spokesman for the Taiwanese Defence Ministry requested that Apple blur the picture of the $1.4 billion facility.
It’s amazing how Apple seems to be doing everything so wrong with Maps, but you’ve got to feel sorry for them: they blur areas which shouldn’t be blurred, while the areas that should be blurred are crystal clear.
David Lo, spokesman:
Regarding images taken by commercial satellites, legally we can do nothing about it. But we’ll ask Apple to lower the resolution of satellite images of some confidential military establishments the way we’ve asked Google in the past.
Just under half of it is already blurred, but who knows if Apple did this on purpose or if it’s a glitch that’s unintentionally doing the Taiwanese government half a favor.
The new facility can apparently detect missiles from as far away as Western China, so it’s quite a serious part of Taiwan’s defence system.
