New Beijing Apple Store Opens to Long Lines

The Wangfujing Apple Store opened its doors to a long line of customers on Saturday. With its opening, the third Apple retail store in Beijing officially became the largest in Asia.

Appleinsider:

According to on-site reports from The Next Web, throngs of excited Apple fans lined up hours in advance to be one of the first to enter the world’s newest Apple Store.

Among the usual Apple Store niceties, the new location also features a winding glass staircase spanning all three of the building’s stories, two 360-degree Genius Bars, and a glass dominated facade.

The new store brings the regions number of Apple Stores up to seven, (five in China, and two in Hong Kong), adding to the already over 390 stores worldwide.

The new outlet is set between the first Apple Store in China, located in Sanlitun, and the Xidan Joy City location near Tiananmen Square. There is expected to be a high amount of pedestrian traffic, as Wangfujing Street is a historic shopping area frequented by both locals as well as foreigners.

On Thursday, Apple Senior Vice President of Retail John Browett visited the Wangfujing store to preview for the media what he called the best store Apple has built in Asia. Browett “leaked” information during the media visit about construction of a new location already underway in Shenzen, the city where Foxconn and other Apple partners have assembly and manufacturing facilities.
