Evernote 5 for Mac Will Offer Revamped UI, New Features

On Friday, Evernote, one of the pioneers in cloud-based note-taking apps for iOS and OS X, gave a small peek into its upcoming redesigned Mac client. The new version will add a number of user interface and operational changes.

AppleInsider:

In a post to its What’s New webpage, Evernote announced its upcoming Evernote 5 for Mac software will bring over 100 new features to the popular app, including powerful new search tools, iOS-like “Cards View,” and integration with Mountain Lion’s Notification Center.

The new app will keep the familiar three-column layout, and the same basic structure of previous versions, but will offer more color and improved functionality while reducing clutter. The new interface uses “cards” that display notes with corresponding images, similar to the app searches in the iOS App Store. Keyboard shortcuts for frequently used shortcuts will be supported.

The app’s left navigation panel had been significantly revamped, offering advanced functions such as the last five notes, and shortcuts. Both personal and shared notes appear in one pane.

A notable new tool included in the new version is TypeAhead search. This powerful new tool performs searches across all notes, breaking down results by notebooks, notes, tags, and recent searches. It will also automatically suggest searches based on frequently used phrases.

A new feature, Atlas, will use geolocation metadata to allow users to view notes on a map according to where they were written. They will be shown on “Place Cards” that are ordered by proximity.

Evernote 5 will be released in beta sometime next week. More information about the app can be found on the Getting Started page.
