Saturday saw the opening of Apple’s brand new retail store in Palo Alto, CA. The new location is located at 340 University Drive, and replaces the old store which was located just down the street. The original Palo Alto location, which opened in October 2001, was one of the first in Apple’s retail chain.
The new store has about 15,000 square feet of retail space and an all-glass front that is a trademark feature of Apple’s retail locations. AppleInsider readers Ben and Gavin were on hand for Saturday’s festivities, and Gavin described the location as “massive.” …Thanks to AppleInsider reader Ben for the included photos.
Apple CEO Tim Cook attended the opening of the new store, which is roughly 50% larger than the original one. The new location is one of the first of a new prototype design based on the store on the Upper West Side in Manhattan.
The original Apple Store in Palo Alto was notable because it was the “home store” for the late Apple co-founder Steve Job. Jobs would sometimes make appearances at the store for product launches, including the 2010 launch of the first iPad.
