Verizon iPhone 5 is GSM Unlocked, Works With AT&T

iDownloadBlog has confirmed that the Verizon iPhone 5 is GSM unlocked. By cutting down an AT&T Micro SIM, they were able to use it in the Verizon device and pick up an AT&T signal.

iDownloadBlog:

Even though I bought an iPhone 5 from Verizon under contract, I was able to cut down my AT&T Micro SIM, and use it in my Verizon iPhone 5 to pick up an AT&T signal. By doing so, I was able to hop onto AT&T’s HPSA+ network, or “4G” as they so ridiculously name it.

While AT&T’s “4G” speeds are nothing like true LTE speeds, they are faster than 3G.

What’s great here is that you can pick up a Nano SIM from AT&T or T-Mobile, and use it on one of those respective networks. Or, if you’re wacky and wild like the folks over there at iDownloadBlog, just make your own with a Micro SIM, a knife, and some tape, and shove it in your brand new, barely used iPhone 5. I think I’d go the Nano SIM route myself.

iDownloadBlog did reach out to Verizon for comment, and the company confirmed that the Verizon iPhone 5 is GSM unlocked, and could be used with another SIM, even thought the phone is under contract. This is good news for travelers, as you never can tell where you’ll be, and need a better signal for your phone. Even a company with coverage like Verizon has dead spots.
