Following previous rumors suggesting Apple will release a new, taller iPod touch with a 4-inch display, developer and iOS hacker Will Strafach (@Chronic) revealed new details about the device on Twitter.
Strafach reports that the new iPod touch will a taller of the same dimensions as the iPhone 5’s taller screen (1136×640), features a model number of iPod5,1, and bears an internal code name of n78AP.
In a second tweet, Strafach also claims that the new iPod touch will run on a version of Apple’s A5 chip rather than the less powerful A4 found in the previous generations. 9to5ac also revealed details regarding new iPod nano and iPod shuffle models:
We also understand that the iPod nano is codenamed N31 and that the iPod shuffle is codenamed N12B. Like we posted last week, the new Shuffle and Nano will ship in 8 colors. We also understand that the new iPod touch will come in several variations, which we speculate points to colors other than black and white.
It’s unclear whether the new iPods will be released tomorrow, but Apple did release new iPods alongside the iPhone 4S, and the fact that this information is leaking on the eve of Apple’s media event suggests that the updates are likely coming sooner rather than later.
We’ll all find out for sure tomorrow! Make sure to tune into MacTrast tomorrow morning for full coverage of Apple’s event, which begins at 10am Pacific / 1pm Eastern.
