We saw the first Geekbench benchmarks for the iPhone 5 surface on Tuesday, now they are followed by Sunspider Javascript benchmarks, which show Apple’s new iPhone 5 kicks some serious butt when it comes to Javascript performance!
It’s twice as fast as the iPhone 4S, and is MUCH snappier than the high-end Android handset. Yup, that includes Samsung’s flagship, the Galaxy S III, (or the “GS3” as the kids like to call it.)
In fact, it’s the fastest smartphone SunSpider has ever recorded, scoring 914.7ms. In comparison, the iPhone 4S achieved a score of 2,250ms, while the Galaxy S III got 1442.9ms. Of course, the lower the score, the better the performance. All tests are performed using the handset’s stock (built-in) web browser.
Javascript is used to measure the performance of web browsers. The number can be influenced by a number of factors, such as the device’s processor, and the implementation of Javascript on the device. It’s believed the excellent results of the iPhone 5 in running the benchmark is because of its new A6 processor that runs at 1.02 GHz.
