Last year, the iPhone 4S rather swiftly became the fastest selling gadget of all time, dethroning Microsoft’s Kinect. Considering that Apple sold twice as many iPhone 5s in the first 24 hours of pre-orders as the iPhone 4S, it’s also likely that the iPhone 5 will dethrone the 4S to take up the “fastest-selling gadget” mantle.
Yanke Group analyst Carl Howe agrees (via iPhoneInformer):
“This is going to be the best-selling consumer electronics device of all time, bar none,” said Carl Howe, an analyst at Yankee Group. He’s one of the many analysts who envisions Apple selling more than 10 million iPhone 5 units by the end of the month, subsequently besting the sales record achieved by the iPhone 4S last October.
Topeka Capital markets analyst Brian White also chimed in (via AppleInsider):
Analyst Brian White with Topeka Capital Markets said in a note to investors on Monday that he believes Apple’s so-called “iPhone 5” will be the biggest upgrade in the history of consumer electronics. He believes Apple could sell between 10 million and 12 million units of the new iPhone to be sold in Apple’s current fiscal quarter, which concludes at the end of September.
Considering the ever-increasing demand for the iPhone, which has escalated to extraordinary levels with the iPhone 5, this is hardly surprising – but it’s always nice to see the experts chiming in as well!
Pre-orders for the iPhone sold out on Apple’s website in less than an hour, and sold out at AT&T and Verizon’s sites in less than 12 hours. Apple released a statement on Friday saying they were “blown away” by the pre-order response. Apple sold over 2 million iPhone 5 pre-orders within the first 24 hours.
