With Apple’s newest iPhone set to debut in less than a week, the question arises of what will happen with the iPhone 3GS and the iPhone 4. According to a new report from The Telegraph, Apple will bid the iPhone 3GS farewell, and the iPhone 4 will become their new entry-level device.
The new update will mean that the 8GB version of the iPhone 4 will be the entry-level iPhone, probably given away free on £20 per month contracts, as the 3GS is currently. Sources close to retailers also suggested that an 8GB version of the 4S could be introduced.
While The Telegraph has a mixed record, and the authenticity of their report cannot be verified, this would hardly be surprising. We predicted as much over three weeks ago in our next-gen iPhone rumor roundup. Shortages of the 3GS have also reportedly begun to hit Apple Stores.
The fact of the matter is that there’s just no place left in the world for the 3GS. Farewell, iPhone 3GS! It was fun while it lasted!
