Apple spent a lot of time during today’s event discussing the improvements to both the camera itself, and the processing software and hardware in the iPhone 5. Apple has now posted a gallery of photos taken with the new device that show off the quality of the camera.
Two of the photos in particular illustrate an improved “macro” ability, with closeups on a flower (with a nicely bokeh’d background) and an antique license plate that reveal excellent sharpness at close range. A pair of distant landscape shots demonstrate a slightly softer view at a distance, but seem to have excellent color and lighting balance, though some compression artifacts and “fringing” are evident in the full-resolution shots, which are 3264×2448.
The gallery offers reduced size shots to view, but also offers downloads of the full-resolution photos, so users can examine them in detail
The results displayed in the gallery match, if not exceed anything I’ve seen from most point-and-shoot cameras. At least from my limited circle of non-professional photo taking friends.
The photos are outstanding results of the iPhone 5 camera technology, and are truly beautiful.
The entire gallery can be seen at Apple’s website.
