Respected journalist Jim Dalrymple of The Loop offers some interesting perspective on the Apple vs. Samsung trial, suggesting that most people just don’t really get what Apple’s motives are for suing Samsung. It’s actually all about what Apple will release in 2013 and beyond!
…This lawsuit isn’t about getting compensation for products that were released in 2007 or even 2011, it’s about protecting the products that will be released in 2013 and 2015 and beyond.
Some writers say Apple is doing itself more harm than good by suing Samsung, as they have to make public how they brainstorm, design, and manufacture their, up til now, magical products, such as New York Times writer Nick Bilton:
By showing the public how it designs products that twice radically changed the electronics industry, Apple could risk losing some of its magic.
Dalrymple disagrees, instead offering the perspective that Apple is dealing with the lesser of two evils. Sure they have to show some old photos and documents now, but this could stop Samsung from copying future products.
It’s in Apple’s interest to stop the copying fiends at Samsung right now. If they can get a verdict in their favor, it could stop Samsung from running future Cupertino designed products through the digi-copier.
As Dalrymple states:
I believe that Apple’s future products are going to change the industry so much, Apple has to put a stop to Samsung now.
And, THAT, says Dalrymple, is Apple’s reason for suing Samsung. And frankly, I’m inclined to agree. I highly encourage you to check out Jim Dalrymple’s entire article over at The Loop. Definitely worth a read.
