With rumors abuzz about Apple’s 7.85-inch iPad mini, a new report claims that the device will begin mass production in September, and that Apple is planning to produce four million units per month.
The report comes to us from DigiTimes, citing sources within Apple’s supply chain. Although DigiTimes does have a somewhat spotty track record, this does fall nicely in line with a large number of reports from largely credible sources (including three recent reports from iMore, 9to5Mac, and Daring Fireball) that the device will launch sometime this fall.
There are plenty of highly credible reports backing this up. For instance, a report from analyst Ming-Chi Kuo, who has an exceptional track record, as well as reports from Bloomberg, The New York Times, and The Wall Street Journal. That’s a lot of highly reputable sources all staking their reputations on the same rumor.
The iPad mini is expected to be as thin as an iPod touch, and feature a narrow bezel. The device is also expected be announced alongside the next-gen iPhone on September 12th, and is expected to be priced between $200 and $300 (1, 2).
