According to a new report from MacRumors, a number of European Apple Premium Resellers have received a request from Apple asking them to increase their iPad display space over the coming weeks, ahead of Apple’s expected media event on September 12.
MacRumors has received word from multiple Apple Premium Resellers in Europe that Apple has requested they set aside additional table space for iPad displays over the next few weeks. One of the sources specifically cites September 12 as the Apple-imposed deadline for the adjustments to be made, while another source indicates that their store is already at work on tripling the amount of display space dedicated to the iPad.
As MacRumors reports, Apple is said to have mentioned September 12th as the deadline for these changes – the same date as their media event, at which they are expected to announce the new iPhone and the iPad Mini.
The extra iPad display space comes at the expense of the Mac Pro and Mac Mini, which will reportedly no longer have any shelf space at all, and will only be available if a customer asps for them. iPod and headphone displays are also reportedly being scaled back.
While the report also notes that the changes began in some locations a few months ago (and Apple is just now pushing then into certain stores), the September 12 deadline date is still extremely interesting, given rumors of a smaller iPad, and even a slightly tweaked full-sized iPad with less heat output and a smaller dock connector.
