Last month, Drobo unveiled two new Thunderbolt-enabled storage units – the Drobo Mini and the Drobo 5D. Drobo has announced that both of the new units are now available for pre-order from a variety of retailers, and are expected to ship by the end of September!
From Drobo:
It’s time for the new Drobos that you proactively and explicitly helped us design. And it’s time for all the Drobo goodness AND much higher performance.
And it’s time for pre-orders! We’re completely overwhelmed with the response we’ve gotten on the new Drobo 5D and Drobo Mini (our highest website traffic and signups ever) – so, make sure to get your pre-order in and secure your place in line.
The Drobo Mini starts at $649, while the Drobo 5D starts at $849 – and unlike many Thunderbolt products, these prices include both a Thunderbolt cable and NEW 2-year standard warranty. Pre-orders are available directly from Drobo, as well as from B&H Photo Video (links: Drobo 5D, Drobo Mini), and pre-orders will become available at Amazon.com within 24 hours (links: Drobo 5D, Drobo Mini).
Both units include built-in mSATA SSD slots, and feature USB 3.0 connectivity in addition to Thunderbolt.
We hope to get our hands on one as soon as they’re available, and will let you know our thoughts!
