Following the release of OS X Mountain Lion this morning, MacStories notes that Apple has now completely removed OS X Lion from the Mac App Store. Apple’s OS X Lion product page has been removed, and can no longer be downloaded from users’ “purchased” lists once Mountain Lion has been installed.
It’s not very surprising, really. Users upgrading to Mountain Lion can do so from Snow Leopard, so there’s really no reason to keep Lion available to download. Those who haven’t yet upgraded to Mountain Lion can also still use Lion Internet Restore to recover their Macs.
Of course, this also means there’s no turning back once you install Mountain Lion, unless you’ve kept a copy of OS X Lion safe and secure in your archives… so make sure all your apps are compatible with Mountain Lion before making the leap!
