We often heard Steve Jobs talk about the ‘Post-PC’ era, but Microsoft COO Kevin Turner came out with the opposite point of view during the company’s Worldwide Partner Conference, describing it as a ‘PC+ era’, stating that what Steve Jobs believed was in their eyes ‘completely incorrect’, The Verge reports.
“Apple makes great hardware,” admitted Turner, “the reality is in the OS we see things differently.”
“They’ve talked about it being the post-PC era, they talk about the tablet and PC being different, the reality in our world is that we think that’s completely incorrect.”
The PC+ era was predicted by Bill Gates in 1999, but it’s clearly down to opinion which one has occurred.
“We actually believe Windows 8 is the new era for the PC plus,” says Turner. “We believe with a single push of a button you can move seamlessly in and out of both worlds. We believe you can have touch, a pen, a mouse, and a keyboard.”
Turner even attempted to show Jobs’s and Cook’s conflicting views with the above slide, but clearly misunderstood what Steve Jobs meant. He highlighted how the PC was no longer the digital hub – still a device, but just not the digital hub – and that is in line with Tim Cook’s statement. Sorry Microsoft, but you didn’t quite get that one.
