According to a new survey from mobile platform development company Appcelerator, Apple’s iOS is jumping ahead of Google’s Android platform in enterprise development.

In the largest survey of its kind, Appcelerator developers were asked what operating system is best positioned to win the enterprise market. Developers said iOS over Android by a 53% to 38% margin. Last year, in its second quarter survey, the two companies were in a dead heat for the enterprise market, tied at 44%.
Windows showed up in third place as 33% of respondents said they would be interested in developing apps on Windows 8.
Appcelerator surveys its community of 340,000 developers each quarter. This survey, more than 3,600 developers participated.
When asked what interests them about iOS, developers said the size of the market and the price point of the devices.
“Apple is a consumer centric app in the eyes of developers,” said Appcelerator’s Director of Enterprise Strategy, Michael King.
Apple has put emphasis on supporting the enterprise with better security, working closely with companies such as Mobile Iron and Symantec’s Nukone.
Apple markets its iOS products for enterprise, showing the ways companies have adopted them, the available apps, and security features. Also, Apple has placed an enterprise specialist in every Apple store.
Two-thirds of survey participants are building apps for their own company, or for a business customer.
