Apple’s Mac and iOS App Stores are typically thought to be trouble-free “it just works” methods for users to install and use apps. Unfortunately, as TheNextWeb reports, a significant issue affecting Apple’s App Stores is currently challenging that idea, causing newly updated or downloaded Mac and iOS apps to crash immediately upon launch.
The issue was first spotted by Instapaper developer Marco Arment, who noticed the issue affecting Instapaper sometime yesterday. It’s unclear what exactly might be causing the issue, and developers and user alike are advised to hold off on updating their apps (or releasing updates to the App Store) until the issue is resolved.
Among the unfortunate consequences of failures like this are that users experiencing app crashes leave negative reviews on the App Store for affected apps, or lose trust for a developer over something that is Apple’s problem, and not the developers concern at all.
A growing list of affected apps can be found over at Marco Arment’s personal website.
