Virgin Mobile began selling the iPhone on Thursday, becoming the second prepaid carrier in the U.S. to offer the popular device.
The carrier, a Sprint subsidiary, is currently selling the iPhone 4 and 4S online, and beginning tomorrow, will begin sales of the two handsets in its new stores. The new stores are the first retail locations for Virgin Mobile, and will open in the Chicago area. If they prove successful, Virgin plans to open additional locations nationwide.
Virgin is selling the phones contract-free. The iPhone 4S 16GB model will go for $649, and the 8GB iPhone 4 will sell for $549. Plans for the phone start at $35 per month and include 300 minutes of talk time and unlimited data and messaging.
