The Ultra-Realistic ‘iPhone 5’ Renders That Took The Web By Storm

A highly skilled visual artist gave the blogosphere quite a start this morning when he posted incredibly realistic renders of Apple’s “iPhone 5”. The renders line up perfectly with the supposed leaked schematics and part leaks that have surfaced recently.

The renders are so realistic that many sites published them thinking they were the real deal (1, 2, 3), although a few sites (i.e., Gizmodo) have since removed those articles in embarrassment after finding out that the images were just an elaborate hoax created by Flickr user Martin uit Utrecht (via Matt Brian).

I’ve gotta hand it to Mr. Utrech. Not only are these renders gorgeous and exceptionally detailed, but the prank was pretty clever as well! Well played, Mr. Utrech, well played!
