Although Apple’s first iOS 6 beta was only released to developers yesterday, MuscleNerd (a prominent jailbreak hacker and member of the iPhone Dev Team) has already managed to jailbreak the firmware on a fourth-generation iPod touch.
While it’s a big step forward, however, it’s important to note that this is just the first baby step towards a fully usable exploit. Many jailbreak apps do not run on iOS 6 at the moment, and it’s unclear whether it will work on other devices.

With any luck, MuscleNerd and other iOS hackers will be able to prepare a public jailbreak close around the time that Apple publicly releases iOS 6 this fall. These first signs bode well for a speedy public jailbreak once iOS 6 hits!
