To be filed under “Playing Catch Up With Apple”, just put it next to the Microsoft Surface, comes the announcement that Google TV will get an update to help it attempt to compete with the Apple TV.
According to Fox News, an announcement about an update to Google TV is coming at Google’s own developer conference this week, Google I/O. What will it include, we wonder?
A demo is apparently scheduled this week that will show how Google TV will combine listings, Netflix, and DVR capabilities in one Google flavored interface. A smartphone app (Want to take a scientific wild ass guess what OS will run the phones?) can be used to access and play the shows.
The Google developer pages show some topics for conference sessions. Two examples include “Bring Your App to the Big Screen,” and “Command and Control in Your Living Room: Building Second Screen Apps for Google TV.”
Who knows, maybe Google can actually come up with a TV interface that doesn’t drive users mad, this time. Maybe they’ll be able to match the Apple TV in features and ease of use. Heck, I hope they surpass it. Maybe it will get Apple off of their dead asses and finally do something exciting with that little black box of theirs!
