There’s a great new Mac app in town, and it aims to give Apple’s own Spotlight a run for its money! Released today on the Mac App Store, Found takes desktop search to a whole new level, by allowing you to find files across your Mac, as well as a host of cloud-based services.
Found provides a lightning-fast, intuitive search experience that finds files across your Mac and personal cloud services, including Dropbox, Google Drive/Docs, and Gmail (attachments).
In addition to including cloud searching, Found also differs from Finder in a number of other important ways, including an immediate preview of the best match for your search, and the ability to activate via hotkey rather than relying on the menu bar. It also features a significantly different (and as Found argues, much improved) interface compared to Finder. The app also provides additional details about search results, such as the name of the person who most recently edited a Google Docs file, or the subject of related emails for mail attachments. This extra bit of information could go a long way in helping you quickly find the file you’re looking for. I’ve been playing around with a pre-release version of Found since mid May, and I highly recommend it. At any rate, it’s free on the Mac App Store, so what do you have to lose? Give it a try (free, Mac App Store link)!
