With all the huge announcements today by Apple at their Worldwide Developers Conference, understandably some announcements were a little underwhelming, but still important in their own right. Apple has released new Thunderbolt accessories and a MagSafe adapter for their line of Mac computers.
MagSafe to MagSafe 2 Converter
Gizmodo reports that Apple had to redesign the MagSafe adapter for their next-generation MacBook Pro, considering the slimming down of the unit. But what do you do if you want to charge the Pro, or your MacBook Air from an Apple display, or older model power adaptor? Easy, just hand over 10 bucks, and Apple will gladly sell you a nifty magnet-that-will-stick-to-another-magnet adapter.
The officially named “MagSafe to MagSafe 2 Converter is now available in the Apple Store.
The official Apple line on this adapter is, “The MagSafe to MagSafe 2 Converter allows you to use the MagSafe connector on your LED Cinema Display, Thunderbolt Display, or MagSafe Power Adapter to charge your MagSafe 2-equipped Mac computer.”
Gizmodo’s opinion is that it looks like an accessory just begging to be lost. I have to agree with them on that one.
Thunderbolt to Gigabit Ethernet Adapter
Also released today are the Thunderbolt to Gigabit Ethernet Adapter, and the Thunderbolt to Firewire 800 Adapter.
The Apple Store blurb for the Thunderbolt to Gigabit Ethernet Adapter reads: “The Apple Thunderbolt to Gigabit Ethernet Adapter lets you easily connect to a high-performance Gigabit Ethernet network. Small and compact, it connects to the Thunderbolt port on your Mac computer and provides an RJ-45 port that supports 10/100/1000BASE-T networks.”
The Thunderbolt to Gigabit Ethernet Adapter is available in the Apple Store.
Thunderbolt to Firewire 800 Adapter
The Thunderbolt to Firewire 800 Adapter will come in handy for Firewire accessory owning new users of the new Retina Display equipped MacBook Pro which has 2 Thunderbolt ports, but no Firewire 800 port.
The Thunderbolt to Firewire 800 Adapter is now available.
