$10,000 Dual Dock Connector iPad Prototype Probably Stolen, Seller Says

Several days ago, we told you about an original dual dock connector iPad prototype that had shown up on eBay. It has now sold for the hefty sum of $10,200, however the seller has now told Wired that it could very well be stolen property. He also confirmed that the  auction’s duration was in fear that Apple might try and take it down, saying he was ‘expecting’ it to.

Wired at first contacted him via eBay’s messaging service, after which the seller called Wired using a blocked number, preserving his anonymity.

“I don’t know if it was stolen from Apple, or if the person who was working with it kept it,” the seller told Wired. “Judging by how Apple works, it’s most likely stolen, but I’m not sure about that.”

He also explained his reasoning for the auction timing: “I knew that Apple wouldn’t be as active over the weekend, and I had a better chance of Apple not taking it down.”

Apple have yet to take any action or comment on the auction, but you’d imagine that they aren’t very pleased. However the iPad has been shipped off to the buyer, and the seller has an extra $10,000 in the bank. “I plan to save it and buy a new iPhone 5 or new MacBook Pro when it comes out. It will definitely get back to Apple,” he said.
