Review: Tracks – The Social Network That Allows You To Share Your Photos Privately

Something at the core of all social media today is sharing photos. Whether it be via Facebook or Twitter, people love to share their photos. However for social networks, with great power comes great responsibility: ensuring that private photos remain private is no easy task, and all too often it isn’t the case.

However new photo sharing network Tracks aims to put an end to that insecurity, allowing you to choose who you want to share your photoswith but also giving you the ability to add Instagram-style effects to all your photos. Let’s see how the app performs.

Layout

If you open the app and haven’t logged in, it offers you the chance to create an account right from app, and the layout makes it easier than ever to do so. Just type in your details and you’re good to go.

Once you’ve got yourself set up, the layout is really intuitive and you can see everything at once. You can search for tracks (what the app calls photo albums) people right from the aim screen, and you can also create own tracks from the same place. It’s easy to add your own photos, either taking them from directly inside the app or by adding your own from existing albums on your iDevice.

The layout of the camera screen is also very nicely done, allowing you to add a large number of effects before even taking the photo, so you can see what they look like and if you like them before hitting the trigger.

Functionality

The app is a smooth slick affair, and to sum it up, everything works as it should. From opening the app, it’s one tap to either take a photo or search for tracks or people, and the pull down to refresh functionality is also a very nice touch.

The whole point of the app is so you can choose who you share your photos with, and again, that’s easier than ever to do. Just tap the icon next to your track and you can add people. Not only can you add other tracks users – you can also include friends on Twitter and Facebook. What’s more, you can even send invites via SMS and email, it’s pretty cool. With the number of social network around, the last thing you want is to have to sign up to yet another one. To see someone’s Tracks photos, all you need to do is get invited. No sign up required.

Finally, the Instragram style photo filters built into the app are really nice. You don’t have to have taken a photo to apply them, so you can see what they look like before even taking the photo. There are twelve different ones by my count, so plenty of choice if you like to jazz up your photos.

Verdict

If you’re worried about putting your photos on Facebook for privacy reasons and like to know who exactly can see your latest pics, then Tracks is definitely the solution. It’s a great concept and app, and you really can’t fault it at all.

It’s also worth noting that you can also share your videos using Tracks, not just photos so there is more than one dimension to the network. A great photo sharing service and app with loads of cool features, I would definitely give this a try.
