One of the key moments of the film Minority Report is when Tom Cruise shows off his special gloves that allow him to control the screens in front of him without even touching them. Now, some MIT students have made that fantasy a reality using an iPad, Cult of Mac reports
The project, dubbed (T)ether, certainly looks awesome – the video shows creating and manipulating 3D objects in real time, moving them around a virtual space. The iPad camera and a little quire attachment are used to track the user’s head position and adjust the orientation, and there’s even a way you can connect with others in a 3D shared virtual space.
While this technology clearly isn’t going to be mainstream for a while, it does show what can be achieved using just an iPad, some special gloves and lots of research, and if we can do stuff like this now, things are very promising for the future.
