I love my iPad, but I must admit it’s not the first tablet I’ve ever owned – that title goes to the Etch A Sketch. And while the iPad is a great deal more advanced and more useful than Ohio Art’s classic drawing toy, the Etch A Sketch will always hold a place in my heart.
Fortunately, thanks to an awesome new Kickstarter project called the Etcher (via TheNextWeb), you can now have the best of both worlds – a modern version of the Etch A Sketch with the iPad as its heart! Unlike cases you may have already seen, the Etcher takes things to a whole new level.
The Etcher uses a special controller and its own companion app to reproduct the original Etch A Sketch experience, and the project is putting every effort into making the experience as authentic as possible – they’ve even hired a professional Etch A Sketch artist (apparently these actually exist) to ensure all the details are absolutely perfect.
What’s great about using the iPad as its base is that the Sketcher brings the Etch-A-Sketch experience into new territory by allowing you to save your creations, upload a timelapse of your drawing to YouTube, or share your drawing across your social networks!
Even better, the Etcher is officially licensed to use the Etch A Sketch trademark, and it won’t cost you a fortune – backing the project with a donation as small as $45 will get you an Etcher of your own once the project meets its funding goal – that’s cheaper than many regular iPad cases!
