Sony Pictures officially announced this morning that they have chosen The Social Network screenwriter Aaron Sorkin (as previously rumored) to adapt Walter Isaacson’s official Steve Jobs biography for the big screen.
From the press release, quoting Sony Pictures co-chairman Amy Pascal (via SlashFilm, The Verge):
Steve Jobs’ story is unique: he was one of the most revolutionary and influential men not just of our time but of all time. There is no writer working in Hollywood today who is more capable of capturing such an extraordinary life for the screen than Aaron Sorkin.
Sony acquired the rights to the film September of last year. Considering Sorkin’s work on projects such as The Social Network, as well as the TV series The West Wing, I’m pretty excited to hear that he’s accepted the call to write the Steve Jobs biopic! I think he’ll do an excellent job.
It should also be noted that this is a completely separate production from the independent Steve Jobs film starring Ashton Kutcher.
