You may want to keep a closer eye on your iPad next time you plan on flying. Fox News (via The Loop) reports that a TSA inspector was caught swiping iPads from passengers’ checked luggage, collecting a total of eight iPads in as many months.
The TSA immediately responded by suspending the officer, who has been arrested and charged for his behavior, and by issuing a public statement:
Clayton Keith Dovel, a baggage inspector, has been charged with theft by a public servant and has been suspended by the TSA.
“The unacceptable behavior of this individual in no way reflects the dedication of our nearly 50,000 transportation security officers who work tirelessly to keep our skies safe,” TSA said in a statement obtained by the station.
Oddly, Dovel never attempted to sell any of the iPads, and didn’t bother wiping the devices, or even turning off Find my iPhone (which is how police ended up finding the stolen loot). It’s unclear what the agent may have been doing with those eight iPads – perhaps he gets his kicks by FaceTiming with eight people at once?
