Scanner Pro 4 by Readdle Transforms Your iPad Into a Portable Scanner!

Readdle, maker of Scanner Pro for the iPhone, has just released Scanner Pro 4. Scanner Pro is now a universal app, and takes advantage of the new iPad’s high resolution Retina Display and improved 5MP camera.

Scanner Pro transforms your iPhone or new iPad into a portable scanner. You can scan checks, agreements, whiteboards, pages, even multi-page documents. After scanning you can email them or upload to Dropbox, Google Docs and Evernote. Documents can also be transferred to and from your device and Mac or PC via a built-in web server.

Some of the features of the universal app are:

• Scan any type of documents ranging from receipts to multi-page agreements. Add, move, delete and even combine pages in both landscape and portrait modes.
• Automatic edge detection with advanced image processing allow you to obtain scans quickly. You can also crop the area to scan manually with on screen controls.
• Custom page sizes allow you to scan any size document.
• All scanned documents are saved as industry standard PDF documents.
• Protect documents with a password.
• Email scans with the one tap Send button.
• The built-in PDF view allows you to preview your scans to view how they’ll appear on a desktop computer.

I downloaded the update to both of my devices. I have an iPhone 4S, and the new iPad. I also have a local investment firm who for some reason thinks I have money to invest. To make something useful from one of their flyers, I decided to scan it with both devices, using Scanner Pro 4.

In both cases, setting up the preferences for the app was simple and straightforward. One tip, when in the settings, make sure to set the default page size to “letter” if you’re a U.S. user. It defaults to “A4”. I entered my Dropbox account information into both devices, and laid the document on a table and proceeded to scan it.

Both devices do an excellent job of photographing the document and converting the scan to a document. The speed was blazingly fast, and in both cases, the app found the edges of the document without adjustment. (Even though I purposely wrinkled the document.) All scans were extremely easy to read.

I was given the opportunity to save the document to my device, and rename it if I wished. I also saved the document to my Dropbox online storage, where it was instantly available to both my computers.

If you’ve already purchased Scanner Pro in the past, upgrading is a no-brainer. Go, do it now, it’s a free upgrade.
