While iOS 5 does offer some level of multi-tasking by allowing apps to run in the background, or by freezing the state of apps in the built-in multitasking bar, Quazar takes iPad multi-tasking to a whole new level.
As BigBoss notes (via The Verge), Quazar is a jailbreak tweak for the iPad available in Cydia, and allows you to run multiple apps in separate windows – a true windowing system for the iPad! Each window can be moved, resized, or closed just as you can do with OS X on a Mac.
While other hacks have tried to implement this in some way, Quasar brings a polish and smoothness to the experience that so far hasn’t been seen elsewhere.
This is a cool hack, to be sure, but should it be more than just a hack? Considering that Windows 8 will allow users to run side-by-side apps, is this something that Apple should consider implementing in iOS 6? Would people really use this if it were available?
If you have a jailbroken iPad, then you’ll want to check this out. Quazar is a bit expensive at $9.99, and is available immediately through the BigBoss repository in Cydia.
