Now that Apple has finally packed a decent camera into the iPad, folks are finally beginning to use the iPad for taking photos and videos. Those that are looking to take advantage of the iPad’s new abilities have a new option for making the most of their photos and videos: The Padcaster.
The Padcaster is a rugged and durable iPad case with a unique twist: You can mount a DSLR lens on the case to use with your iPad. The Padcaster also allows you to mount your iPad on a tripod, and add other accessories such as a flash unit or a microphone. Check out the above hands-on video from The Verge to see how it all works.
If you couple the features of the Padcaster with the fact that the iPad is already a fantastic media creation device with a ton of available apps, you end up with a great system for recording decent quality video and photo material.
Personally, I could see myself doing a lot of video recording (events, while traveling, etc.) using a system like this. Unfortunately, considering that the Padcaster will cost you $200 (not including the lens mount), it’s likely out of the price range for many consumers.
For more information, or to buy one of your own (note: they’re currently on backorder), head on over to the official Padcaster site on the web.
