New iMacs and MacBook Pros Launching in June?

Following rumors that Intel’s first batch of next-gen Ivy Bridge processors are due out this month, and that Apple is preparing to update several lines of Macs in the near future, DigiTimes references a new report in Taiwan’s Daily Economic Times (via MacRumors) claiming that Apple is planning to release new iMac models in June.

PC ODM Quanta Computer and chassis supplier Foxconn Technology are expected to benefit from the launch of Apple’s latest iMac desktops, which are set to launch in June with Intel’s latest Ivy Bridge processors, according to a Chinese-language Economic Daily News (EDN) report citing sources from the upstream supply chain.

The report falls in line with prior rumors that Apple will be slightly modifying the design of the iMac to include anti-reflective glass, although no mention is made of the slightly thinner form factor also rumored to be coming in Apple’s forthcoming new models. The report goes on to suggest that new MacBooks will likely be released near the end of the second quarter as well.

While the Economic Daily News does not have a very reliable track record with Apple rumors, as MacRumors points out, the report nevertheless seems somewhat believable, especially considering that Apple is planing to release OS X Mountain Lion this summer.

Add to that the fact that iMac, MacBook Pro, and MacBook Air are all due for a refresh soon and the fact that Apple’s World-Wide Developer Conference will likely be held in June (as with previous years), and a summer release for new MacBooks and iMacs begins to seem fairly likely.

Even so, considering the lack of actual evidence for any of these claims, it’s worth keeping a healthy dose of skepticism regarding all such rumors.
