Following yesterday’s report that Facebook acquired Instagram for a sizable $1 billion, many are having second thoughts about the service for a variety of reasons, including Facebook’s loose privacy standards. iDownloadBlog provides a simple tutorial for how to save your photos and KO your account.
Exporting your photos
If you’re looking to bail on Instagram, however, you probably won’t want to lose your photos. Fortunately, Instaport provides a way to export your photos and save them to either Flickr or your hard drive for safe keeping before you pull the plug.
Instaport is an extremely simple way to export your Instagram photos. To use the service, just head to the Instaport website and log in with your Instagram account information. You’ll then have the option to download your photos directly or export them to Flickr. The entire process takes less than five minutes.
There’s also another free web app called GramGrab that will allow you to download your Instagram photos and archive them for later use.
Closing your Instagram account
Now that your pictures are safe and sound, all that’s left to do is head to Instagram’s account removal page, enter your account information, and submit your request. Your account will be deleted permanently, and any photos you have not backed up will be lost forever, so make sure you’ve covered all your bases before pulling the trigger.
That’s all there is to it! We’ll be looking into alternatives to Instagram in a future post, so keep an eye out if you’re looking for a suitable replacement.
