There’s something about the smell of a new Apple product – that satisfying scent that fills the air after opening a Mac or iOS device for the first time. Air Aroma has now captured that magical essence in a new custom fragrance designed for Melbourne-based artist group Greatest Hits.
To replicate the smell a brand new unopened Apple was sent to our fragrance lab in France. From there, professional perfume makers used the scents they observed unboxing the new Apple computer to source fragrance samples. On completion the laptop was sent back to Australia, travelling nearly 50,000kms and returned to our clients together with scent of an Apple Macbook Pro.
Unfortunately, as The Verge points out, the fragrance is not being designed for consumers, and won’t be sold in stores. Instead, it will be defused into the air during the group’s De facto Standard exhibit in Melbourne, which seems to be about the battle between Blu-Ray and HD-DVD in the optical disc format wars.
It’s unclear why the artists specifically wanted “New MacBook Pro” as their fragrance of choice, or what they plan to achieve with the scent, but it’s sure to attract Apple fans from miles around like wolves tracking fresh meat.
