Tim Cook Meets With Chinese Officials, Poses With Fans at Beijing Apple Store

Tim Cook has paid a visit to the Joy City Beijing Apple Store, TechNode reports. The Apple CEO’s visit is somewhat of a surprise, but he took the opportunity to greet Apple Store employees and pose for pictures with fans.

His visit has lead to the inevitable speculation that he could be making the trip to talk to China’s two telecoms giants about a potential iPhone 5 or new iPhone. The iPhone 4S is currently available on both China Telecom and China Unicom.

As for why Cook decided to visit this specific store, his decision was presumably to with it being, in terms of consumer traffic and volume, the most popular store in the world.

Update: The Wall Street Journal is now reporting that Tim Cook’s reason for going to China was to meet with government officials:

Cook, who is on his first trip to China since becoming chief executive of the Cupertino, Calif.-based company, “had great meetings with Chinese officials today. China is very important to us and we look forward to even greater investment and growth here,” said spokeswoman Carolyn Wu. She declined to identify any of the Chinese officials or give further details on the meetings.
