Following yesterday’s news that Intel’s first batch of Ivy Bridge processors will be available in late April, a new report from Digitimes claims that production of a new 15″ MacBook Pro will begin next month as well, although new 13-inch models will not enter production until June.
As Apple will start mass producing its 15-inch MacBook Pro in April, sources from the upstream supply chain have pointed out that the company’s orders for the 13.3-inch model are far higher than those of the 15-inch, indicating that Apple is more focused on the 13.3-inch notebook segment. However, the 13.3-inch MacBook Pro will not start mass production until June.
Interestingly, the report makes no mention of any 17″ models entering production, raising concerns that they may either discontinue the 17″ model, or release it at a later date, as they have done in the past. It really doesn’t make sense to me that Apple would release two new MacBook Pros just two months apart, however, even if they are just different sizes.
