Report: iPad 3 to Feature 1GB RAM, Dual-Core A5X Processor, Launch Alongside New 1080p Apple TV

Tomorrow’s iPad media event is certainly backed by a lot of hype about what might be announced. A new iPad is expected, of course, with many other possible announcements on the table, including a new Apple TV and iOS 5.1.

According to The Verge, Apple is set to announce an iPad 3 featuring a dual-core A5X processor with improved graphics, as well as 1GB of RAM, and will launch alongside a new Apple TV, which will include support for 1080p output, and which will work in conjunction with the new iPad and OS X Mountain Lion to support 1080p AirPlay Mirroring. They also state that there is “no question the new iPad will tout that 2048 x 1536 Retina Display.”

According to sources familiar with the matter, Apple will update both the new Apple TV and the iPad 3 (or iPad HD, a name we first unearthed last year) not with the rumored, quad-core A6 system-on-a-chip, but rather the A5X, a dual-core SoC said to have a more powerful GPU. From what we’re hearing, it’s basically an A5 on steroids.

The report also claims that Apple will be releasing several different models of the device for various carriers, with separate 4G LTE models for AT&T and Verizon in the U.S., and an additional model that is limited to 3G for international markets.

We’ll be covering Apple’s iPad event tomorrow, and will keep you up on the latest news as we hear it!
