Next-Gen iPad to Hit Retail Stores on March 16th?

Apple next iPad, which could either be called the iPad 3 or iPad HD, may not launch “nearly immediately” after tomorrow’s event, as previously rumored. According to a “reliable” Apple Store source, the device is set to hit store shelves on March 16th, nine days after tomorrow’s announcement.

9to5Mac reports:

We’ve been told by a Apple Store source who has been reliable in the past that preparations are being made for a big Apple Store event which will culminate on Friday, March 16th.  Naturally, this points to an iPad 3 launch on the Friday just nine days after tomorrow’s announcement.  We’ve previously noted that an Apple Store in London at the world famous Harrod’s will open on that date as well as a new Store in Houston, Texas.

The report also claims there will be a second Apple event a week after tomorrow’s iPad announcement, which would be highly unusual for Apple, possible casting doubt on the reliability of this rumor in general.

We’ll be covering tomorrow’s event live starting tomorrow morning at 10:00 AM PST.
